Celebrating 20 Years of Sunrise Logistics

Founded in the early 2000s as part of the Four Seasons Family of Companies

IT STARTED WITH A REQUEST

In the early 2000s, as product moved from the West Coast to Pennsylvania, vendors began asking whether space might be available on trucks already headed east.

The questions were simple:

Can we add a few pallets?
Could you take something back east for us?
Could you drop a load at another location?

At first, the associates at Four Seasons Produce helped when they could. They found ways to serve. Over time, those small requests revealed something bigger.

WHEN HELPING BECAME A SERVICE

Requests to transport freight from various growing regions to Pennsylvania soon expanded. Vendors began asking about short-term storage or adding pallets to a Four Seasons delivery truck.  It was evident that many Four Seasons vendors needed additional supply chain services.  To responsibly support the growing requests, a key decision was made. The private fleet was separated from Four Seasons Produce and became Sunrise Transport. Alongside it, Sunrise Logistics was formed 2006.

This wasn’t about launching a new business. It was about recognizing what was already happening.

The fleet could do more.
The warehouse could do more.
The people could do more.

The expertise to handle fresh produce through the supply chain was already there.

Sunrise Logistics became the place where those “extra” requests could be handled intentionally.

A WAREHOUSE DOING MORE

At the same time, the Ephrata facility was already more than storage.

It offered cross-dock space, repack capabilities, temperature-controlled storage, and ripening rooms. What changed was how people began thinking about what was possible.

One question shaped what came next:

What more could we do with what we had?

Soon Sunrise Logistics was managing cross-dock programs, storage solutions, ripening services, and value-added work that allowed vendors to extend their reach on the East Coast.

What began as transportation became partnership.

LEARNING BY DOING

Sunrise Logistics spent its early years learning the business by doing the work — including navigating periods where the numbers didn’t yet reflect the effort. Relationships mattered. Flexibility mattered. People showed up for one another.

Those early experiences didn’t just build capability.

They built culture.

Long-time associates remember teamwork, creativity, and a sense of shared purpose. That foundation became something people still recognize today.

Like many startups, Sunrise Logistics spent its early years focused on finding its footing and achieving profitability.  The team worked diligently to expand the customer base while refining service offerings and pricing strategies. Their persistence and commitment to continuous improvement paid off, setting Sunrise Logistics on a path toward sustained, profitable growth and helping customers succeed.

TURNING POINT

WHAT SETS SUNRISE APART

Ask what sets Sunrise Logistics apart, and the answer is always the same.

People.

Associates treat customer needs as their own. They notice details others might miss. They solve problems before they become issues. Over time, that approach became reputation.

Customers didn’t just find a logistics provider.

They found a partner.

MODERN CAPABILITIES

What started with transportation evolved into a broad range of services:

  • Cross-dock and storage programs

  • Ripening and conditioning

  • Juice and beverage handling

  • Value-added warehouse services

Most recently, Sunrise expanded into High Pressure Processing (HPP), a natural extension of the same mindset that launched the business.

Through a partnership with Hiperbaric, Sunrise Logistics is bringing state-of-the-art HPP capabilities to its Ephrata campus, offering customers extended shelf life, enhanced food safety, and integrated logistics support in one location.

Sunrise Logistics exists today because someone once asked:

“Could you help us with this too?”

Twenty years later, that question still drives the work.

The scale has changed. The capabilities have grown. The purpose remains the same.

Sunrise Logistics continues to find ways to say yes.

THE QUESTION THAT STILL DRIVES US
